Respite, Rest, Restoration

A repost from a different November. This little piece of Heaven is on my mind as I’ll be spending a weekend there with my BFF and many other like-minded women. It promises to be three days of new challenges, friendships, learning and nurturing.

I hope your weekend when it comes, will bring you joy.

4 November 2015

I stepped barefoot onto my balcony in the chill November dawn
And was struck by the incredible beauty of autumn on the river
The newborn light on the horizon bathed the world in every hue
Of mauves, violets and amethyst; a gift of my favourite colours
Reflecting it in the polished pewter, mirror smooth water’s surface
Shadows of evergreens were a study in charcoal, smudged along the shore
The denuded oak and maple trees looked like black lace on violet silk
They reached their slender branches aloft like fingers seeking warmth
And as the sun cleared the eastern view of the lake, rays of brilliant light
Like ribbons of fire, came streaking across the water towards me
The burgeoning light gave colour to the water and woods, turning the sky blue
A soft breeze followed the rays, ruffling the water at the edge of the beach
Teasing the hem of my nightie. I shivered standing in the light coat of frost
Already beginning to disappear, as the earth began to warm itself
I breathed in the last of the dawn, holding my arms round myself for warmth
Then returned to my bed, dreaming Persephone’s dreams

OctPoWriMo 2015 ~ Kyrielle I

You relight the fuse and walk away
It’s your heart, not mine that you betray
This barrier, I must break through
Again, my thoughts return to you

I’m all aflame with your memory
You’re the only cure, my remedy
These words of mine, I know I’ll rue
Again, my thoughts return to you

Unbend your mind, no need to fear
True love and soul mates trump the years
What more am I supposed to do?
Again, my thoughts return to you

OctPoWriMo 2015 ~ How Came Autumn?

As did Pandora
Youth again alters the world
Oh! Persephone

A change of season was born
Of a pomegranate seed

My Voice ~ Persephone

Disclaimer: though  I’ve done Voice Over work, it’s been in a studio with technicians and professional equipment. Mostly, I wanted the cadence of this piece to be felt and it was done for my Mum and Dad. Bear with the pops and crackles s’il vous plaît.

And the words, from the previous post:

You ask me child, how many years
How many , how many tears
For all these seasons
Hark ye to the reasons

These drops of blood, like pomegranate seeds
Falling into this dust, unto these weeds
They sully what Demeter holds dear
Falling on the earth that lies so sere
They are the tith to honour the deal
Recompense for what Hades did steal

For what is Life but the held breath
The seasons weep as they turn toward death
And not a penny, not a farthing
Can stop a Mother’s heart from grieving

Yet the dying bargain
So they plead
And they manouever
For just one more dream
One more dawn
One more summer

The blooming rose of each drop
Each precious ruby seed
Is payment in kind
To see Persephone freed
What her mother’s tears hath
Left to die by grief’s neglect

Stirs under the sacrifice
Of blood, sweat and death
Blood spilled upon the dust again
Atonement in a drop of rain

Persephone ~ MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie

Prompt #78 “Persephone”26 October 2014

From MLMM’s description:

“Today’s prompt comes to us from Jen at Blog It or Lose It! If you haven’t heard the fabulous news already Jen has joined MLMM and will be working together with Bastet on the now expanded Shadorma Challenge. Jen will be teaching us about the different forms of poetry =)

Watch the video (warning it is a bit disturbing) and create!”

From me: THERE IS A SN_KE AT THE BEGINNING!!!  I almost couldn’t watch…

You ask me child, how many years
How many debts, how many tears
The Gods command the turn of seasons
Hark ye now to hear  the reasons

These drops of blood, like pomegranate seeds
Falling into this dust, unto these weeds
They sully what Demeter holds dear
They fall to heal the earth that’s laying sere
They are the tithe to honour the deal
Recompense for what Hades did steal

For what is Life but a held breath
The seasons weep as they turn toward death
And not a penny, not a farthing
Can stop a Mother’s heart from grieving

And yet the dying bargain
So they plead
They manoeuver
For just one more dream
One more dawn
One more summer

The blooming rose of each blood drop
Each precious ruby-coloured seed
Is payment in kind
To see Persephone freed
What her mother’s tears hath left
To die in dust by grief’s neglect

Stirs under this, the sacrifice
Of our blood, our sweat and death
Spilled upon the dust again and again
Humankind’s atonement in a drop of rain

Demeter’s Dreams

There are moments when winter looks so warm and perfect and right
I forget the cold, the aching, the bitter wind
I really look at the beauty around me
Seeing that there is a gift to be received from this the most barren of the seasons
It’s almost as though Demeter has gently exhaled upon the twigs and trees and shrubs
And that her breath is a frosty white blanket, gently tucking the earth in and saying:
Sleep well my most treasured possessions. Sleep and awake with my precious Persephone
Sleep now and wake with renewed beauty and vigour to gladden mankind’s heart
Sleep until she returns to warm my heart again…
