The Hardest Goodbyes I

Closing this week in a city altered forever. Yesterday was “business as usual” though fair to say my thoughts were consumed with the continued emerging details surrounding the senseless death of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo.

I’m lost for words but these ones are more important than ever to me and to all Canadians:

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Ô Canada!
Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l’épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

R.I.P.

You join with many brave, bright souls that went far too soon.

R.I.P. CPL. Cirillo.

You died guarding a monument to Canada’s finest and fallen and so shall you always be remembered as one of those.

The face of my city changed forever today.
