Through Pages Soaked In Love ~ A Duet

I would like to introduce a piece I’ve written alongside my friend Ax. This is my first duet and he has been a patient guide and a very simpatico wordsmith. It’s an honour and privilege to co-create with someone who’s writing I admire so much. It’s been a true joy to discover the similarities in our approach and style and to share the creative process with a fellow Canadian too!

I hope you’ll all enjoy our piece as much as I enjoyed writing it with him and if you haven’t already, please go visit Ax at Perso~In~Poesia . His words will touch you, I promise. ~ kei

The smell of paper stained with ink
An aphrodisiac, a poet drinks
Through pages soaked in love
Held in hand, bindings spread
Fingers leaf, turning pages read

Walking through an empty park, under misty rain and pearly skies
An open book and ruffled pages, on a park bench did I spy
Through pages soaked in love
Heedless to the weather, I sat down and chanced to read
Words leaping off the pages spoke of nameless love and need

Eyes fall for the curves of her theme
Plot thickens, to sounds of screams in a dream
Through pages soaked in love
Escape the every day and find the way
To a place inside, let those fingers splay

Touched by a Poet who ached for what had been, what was not
Heart ached as I addressed it and pushed it through the slot
Through pages soaked in love
Those words had kissed my eyes, and slipped into my soul
I’d been captured by the thoughts of a man I didn’t know

Absorbing the fluid flow of evocative words
Trapped in lust, sung between dawn and dusk by birds
Through pages soaked in love
Consumed by the author’s tease
To a character most recognizable with ease

From that mailing began a flow of our correspondence
Writer’s nature, letter followed letter and grew in nuance
Through pages soaked in love
Words spilling from heart to fingers, swept us up in a flood
We were bound by indigo chains and in each other’s blood

To fall in love, to wish upon a star
To drown in lines of waves from afar
Through pages soaked in love
To dip into the abyss of a lost world
To find the secrets that lay unfurled

Exploring each other in each turn of the page
Sweet surrender to growing passion, enslaved
Through pages soaked in love
Hands caressing your fantasies and skin soaked in sweat
To read those incendiary words, “I think it’s time we met”

Page after page, without a break
The ups and downs of joy and ache
Through pages soaked in love
The final page held in trembling fear
As the end draws ever near

Desire brings you to my door under midnight skies
All those words, all that’s right, is written in your eyes
Through pages soaked in love
Our words alchemized with a touch from page to skin
Sealed with our kiss, let a new chapter to begin

Desert

And now for something completely different…

Desert

Desert

I was invited to do this challenge by Purpleanais. I’ve seen timed challenges before and wondered how I might do. With word doc and oven timer primed I set out.

Desert
~ Timed Word Challenge ~

Shifting words on a golden sand page
Blown ripples of old sentences foolish and sage

Does the sere vista of my life have a chance of redemption
Will there ever be found an oasis of love’s intervention

As the winds whip waves dry as salt upon my face
My thoughts thirst for a different time and place

Comfort me in this hour of my need
Slake my thirst with touch and seed

Away to your casbah of concrete and steel
Away from this desert where nothing feels real

Let the sun bake down, let the hot winds blow
I’ve found respite in

My final word count, including the title and subtitle was 106 and it’s not finished.
It was incredibly hard to not go back and correct, harder still to publish this. I’ve joked about my ADD/OCD and I’m sure mentioned I’ve done Technical Writing. I agonize over almost every post (you can tell the ones that are “toss offs”) but when I thought “Yes!” to the challenge, I knew that was the deal.

I’m going to invite any of my fellow bloggers who’d like to, to give this a whirl. It’s fun to step out of our familiar style once in a while. I was actually a little surprised to find how much time I spend seeing the words before they hit the page. Not surprised at all that my inner English Prof was scolding for the entire five minutes! Thank you Purpleanais for the invitation 🙂

The rules are below and have fun! It’s definitely more fun than trying to get into a pair of Spanx. Guys, you’ll just have to take my word on that. Well…

1) Open an MS word document (or any other editor).
2) Set a stop watch or a mobile for 5-10 minutes.
3) Your topic is at the foot of this post. DO NOT SCROLL DOWN TO SEE IT UNTIL YOU ARE READY WITH A TIMER.
4) Fill the word document with as much wordage as you want, once you start writing, don’t stop.
5) Do Not cheat by going back and correcting spellings and grammar with spell check (this is only meant for you to reflect on your control over sensible thought flow).
6) You may or may not pay attention to punctuation and capitals.
7) At the end of your post write down the number of words.
8) Do not forget to copy and paste the entire passage to your blog post with a new topic.

Your topic — “Knots”

Lost Angels ~ MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie

Prompt #110 “Meraki”7 June 2015

From MLMM’s description:

“This week I want you to share a poem, drawing, story, photo, sculpture, etc that you’ve put your soul into creating. Something that touches on the deepest most vulnerable parts of yourself. Something raw and exposing. It need not be something new or something created specifically for this challenge. It might be your most accomplished piece of work or it might be a piece that you have never shared before. Maybe it makes no sense to anyone other than you or maybe it has gotten a lot of positive publicity. Maybe you sit down right now, in this moment and pour your guts out. Show us what you’re made of!”

Lost Angels

Although I never had the chance to gaze upon your tiny face
I’ve often felt your too short existence blessed my life with grace
I never knew the sweet joy of your tiny fingers wrapped round mine
Never counted each of your tiny toes, or kissed your hair so downy fine
But I often imagine that somewhere better, you can look down and see
And that you know, my sweet lost angel, you are still precious to me

Persephone ~ MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie

Prompt #78 “Persephone”26 October 2014

From MLMM’s description:

“Today’s prompt comes to us from Jen at Blog It or Lose It! If you haven’t heard the fabulous news already Jen has joined MLMM and will be working together with Bastet on the now expanded Shadorma Challenge. Jen will be teaching us about the different forms of poetry =)

Watch the video (warning it is a bit disturbing) and create!”

From me: THERE IS A SN_KE AT THE BEGINNING!!!  I almost couldn’t watch…

~~~~~
You ask me child, how many years
How many debts, how many tears
The Gods command the turn of seasons
Hark ye now to hear  the reasons
These drops of blood, like pomegranate seeds
Falling into this dust, unto these weeds
They sully what Demeter holds dear
They fall to heal the earth that’s laying sere
They are the tithe to honour the deal
Recompense for what Hades did steal
For what is Life but a held breath
The seasons weep as they turn toward death
And not a penny, not a farthing
Can stop a Mother’s heart from grieving
And yet the dying bargain
So they plead
They manoeuver
For just one more dream
One more dawn
One more summer
The blooming rose of each blood drop
Each precious ruby-coloured seed
Is payment in kind
To see Persephone freed
What her mother’s tears hath left
To die in dust by grief’s neglect
Stirs under this, the sacrifice
Of our blood, our sweat and death
Spilled upon the dust again and again
Humankind’s atonement in a drop of rain
