With inspiration from Barbara Lewis’ song “Baby I’m Yours”, this is “the Time Traveler’s Ballad”, a love letter from one time traveler to another.

Baby, I’m yours.
From here until our timelines intersect,
our bodies lay parallel,
our minds are mirrored and our hearts beat in harmony.

From here,
until every star stops shining
because the life of our Sun isn’t long enough.
Though even in that pitch black emptiness I’ll still be yours;
just as you’ll continue to hold me as the day turns to night,
or the light switches off or I cover our heads in the comforter.
Because where else could I belong in the universe but along side you?

For so long I was longing for my place among the skies-
Longing to land somewhere I belonged
and I found that place – in your eyes.
I could go anywhere in space, but that’s the place
where I became more than a traveler,
the silent bystander, the on-looker,
I became the center
of your attention-
of your universe.

I crash-landed into your life
but you didn’t seem to mind.
You were perfectly happy to sail through the days
and the hours and the nights and the years
running off of one another’s kisses,
lasting for an eternity on the fumes alone.
Until we meet where our timelines intersect,
our bodies lay parallel,
our minds are mirrored and our hearts beat in harmony.

‘When’ and ‘where’ don’t have to be answered
when time is irrelevant and space the same,
as long as you and I are then and there.

Where you can hold me like
you were blind but for your brief glimpses of me
(where our timelines intersect).
Where you can hold me like
you could only survive on the air which has touched me
(where our bodies lay parallel).
Where you can hold me like
I’m the only thing you’ll ever need
(where our minds are mirrored and our hearts beat in harmony).

Where baby, you’re mine,
from here,
until the end of time.
